The Squier® 40th Anniversary Telecaster®, Vintage Edition is a soulful tribute model trimmed with a collection of classic features for the retro-minded Squier enthusiast. The Squier 40th Anniversary collection celebrates the 40-year journey of Fender's entry-level brand with special editions of the Telecaster®, Stratocaster®, Jazzmaster®, Precision Bass®, and Jazz Bass®, all available in Gold Edition and Vintage Edition variants. Modern cheap guitars are great. The first instruments to bear the Squier name were introduced in 1982, answering the call for genuine Fender® designs at accessible prices. I now understand those youtubers that buy $60-200 guitars and talk about how awesome they are. It was a weird sense of awe and appreciation - I didn't really expect the ultra to be that much better, but at the same time I'm still impressed how good the cheap (I paid $150) squier affinity is lol. The CVs I played felt very nice to me, but YMMV.Īs far as the two guitars are concerned for me, going from the squier to the fender is not a purchase I regret doing lol. CVs usually have lacquer finish necks, and some people don't like that. things like fret shape and neck shape and finish can all play a role in enjoying a guitar or hating it, so, for those considering one of these, I'd recommend trying something similar out. I'm pretty sure if I tossed my squier to Keith Richards he could make it sound way the hell better than I can make my fender sound hahaha.Īnyway, particular models. But if I put the squier in the 4th position it sounds fine. The ultra has a humbucker on the bridge pickup, so it sounds nicer in the 5th position than my squier does lol. If I plug them into an amp and play things, they sound about 90% the same. The fender does feel a lot fancier but the cheap guitars and expensive ones are all guitars. ![]() ![]() what can I say? I'm shy with guitars? lol. ![]() I've also played with a squier CV or two before. but I have a squier affinity and a fender ultra. I've never held a MIM fender, which makes this weird. Even with the tuners, I'll be in for $240 total. I prefer its 12" fretboard, which I can't get with other inexpensive Teles. But even as-is, tuning stability is great, and it plays wonderfully. I DID have to do a setup and clean the fretboard. I'm very much enjoying a Black Friday Firefly Telecaster (the FFTL) that was $180 to my door. I agree, but I long ago gave up on ever changing his mind. Your buddy is missing out on a golden era of high quality, low cost guitars! The source of manufacture doesn't make much different anymore because everyone is using CNC machines for cutting and computerized construction methods, so consistancy and quality are very high as compared to hid-range instruments with a human factor involved. The $400-$500 range modern Squire line is in the same class as Made in Mexico Fender products from 20 years ago, and probably around the same quality as 1980's American Fender products. Your friend needs to get up with the times. ![]() That is absolutely not my experience, but there it is. Man.īut even here in Slickdeals, there are opinions that the Squiers (usually Made in Indonesia, sometimes in China) are significantly inferior to MIM Fenders. On the Gibson side, there a fuss from some that the new Kirk Hammond Epiphone Greeny Les Paul has the Gibson HEADSTOCK. I have a good friend who only remembers Squiers from the late 80's when they weren't very good at all.
